System Integration

Dedicated to the dissemination of System Integration information

What could be defined as ‘politics’ will greatly affect System Integration (S.I.) in many different ways.

A company may have a technology, or a capability, they want to develop, a senior manager may have a ‘pet technology’.  This type of preference will affect System Integration (S.I.) as these decisions will be fed through into the S.I. phase, the integration engineer will have to deal with the results of these decisions.

Politics can also affect the workshare, if two companies regularly collaborate who’s turn is it to get the ‘interesting part’? Does one company owe a favour to another company?  Is one company considered the ‘senior partner’ and therefore tends to get what they want?

Instead of using the word ‘politics’ you could use ‘practicalities’, i.e. the heading of this page could be Practicalities and System Integration. The word politics has negative connotations, I prefer to use the word practicalities.
