Environmental Testing

Some manufacturing facilities, or research labs, have what is called ‘environmental testing’ facilities.  These are testing facilities where it is possible, in some way, to change the environment.

This could be a change in temperature, humidity, or physical environment - shaking, vibration etc.

What this means is that System Integration Testing (S.I.T.) can be carried out in the different environments that the system is expected to function in.

For instance, a car could be placed in the environmental test facility and the facilities temperature could be varied, the humidity varied or the car shaken about.  The car is expected to work in all of these environments so the environmental facility recreates all these environments.

S.I.T. will be repeated in each of the environments to ensure that the system still functions as expected.
