Definition of Web Poster

The term ‘web poster’, within the context of my studying, comes from when, at technical conferences, writers of scientific papers would display a physical poster that summarised their paper, an abstract, research methods, references, conclusions etc.  They would also advertise times when they would be available for questions about their work, anyone interested would go to where the poster was hung, at the specified time, and ask questions.

 

These became know as ‘poster sessions’.

 

A web poster is the electronic version of the physical poster and has the same objectives, i.e. it is a two or three page summary of the dissertation whose objective is to stimulate discussion, or provide a forum, for the wider academic community.
